WSJ – Life Lessons From Navy SEAL Training

Friday’s Wall Street Journal featured an excellent editorial, ‘Life Lessons From Navy SEAL Training’ that is worth reading this Memorial Day.   As out nation honors those who serve today and through-out our Great history, and remembers that ‘Freedom is Not Free’, Admiral William H. McRaven, ninth commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command  provides restorative guidance of how one person can change the world through deliberate and thoughtful actions.

In his speech given as a commencement address to the University of Texas at Austin on May 17, 2014, Admiral McRaven  reminds us of how “generations were saved by one decision, by one person”.

Moreover, he shares ten (1o) lessons he learned as a Navy SEAL, and in his training, that provide guidance for our lives as we move forward each and every day; and give insight to how each of us can change our country and the world.

The inscription on the frieze below the dome of the Jefferson Memorial reads: " have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man."

A heartfelt thank you to our troops who get up every day to create and protect our freedoms.  As one walks through Washington DC, our great monuments, like the Jefferson Memorial and the Korean War Memorial remind us of all that have served, and all that has been done, to nurture and preserve the freedoms that we enjoy today.

As C.S. Lewis reminds us, “our response to the current moral trend is not to worry, but neither do we do nothing.  Light shines, salt savors, truth matters, prayer works.”

May God Bless our troops and the United States of America.
